January’s Member Spotlight : Stanton Law

What is your business industry category or specialty?
Stanton Law LLC specializes in providing bottom-line-oriented legal advice to businesses, with a particular emphasis on employment law solutions.  We represent management in all aspects of the employer/employee relationship, as well as provide business and commercial counsel.
How do you describe your job to people outside the industry?
Stanton Law focuses on getting our clients back to their business, helping them avoid headaches and wasted resources so often associated with legal issues in the workplace.  We also help international businesses that want to start operations in the U.S., assist with commercial matters and contracts, and ensure American with Disabilities Act compliance.
Who are your main competitors and what differentiates you from the competition?
What makes you unique?
There are many law firms in Atlanta and we know we cannot be everything to everyone.  Because of our boutique structure, we are flexible on payment options and are able to provide a personalized service at affordable prices. We pride ourselves on offering cost-effective, practical, and creative legal solutions. We are also one of the only smaller law firms able to help foreign companies start their business in the U.S.  And we have fun doing it.
How was the business started?
Todd Stanton founded Stanton Law in 2011 after serving at two large Atlanta firms. Since then, the Firm has grown to handle all aspects of employment issues that businesses commonly encounter, from hiring and firing questions, to discrimination, disability, restrictive covenants, and Department of Labor audits.
How many employees does the business have?
Stanton law currently has 9 employees, including 8 attorneys.
How did you end up in Atlanta?
Todd is a Georgia native. I was born in Sri Lanka, grew up in England and spent 10 years in the Netherlands before returning to England to work at an international law firm in London.  I moved to Atlanta in 2010 to join my family.
What is your number one business goal over the next year?
We would love to be able to assist more Dutch clients located in or wanting to do business in Georgia. As I speak Dutch, I particularly enjoy putting my Dutch clients at ease about the American way of doing things by speaking to them in their language.
What is the best advice you have received regarding doing business with the Dutch?
It’s difficult to generalize because the U.S. is so diverse in terms of culture.  That said, working and living in the Netherlands gave me a good idea of the differences between the two. The candor of the Dutch can sometimes be novel to Americans, but both the Dutch and Americans share an interest in being successful in trade and business.  So all in all, they are more alike than different.
Any other personal information you would like to share, e.g. hobbies, special interests, family etc…
It’s important to us that our staff has a life outside the office and contributing to the community is a key part of that.  We love rescue dogs and several attorneys bring their rescues to the office with them everyday.  We also support the Boys & Girls Club of Atlanta, Everybody Wins, and other charities.
