Brussels attacks: Netherlands stands side by side with Belgium

Following a number of attacks in Brussels on Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders have been in contact with their Belgian colleagues.

Both sent their condolences, expressed the Netherlands’ solidarity with Belgium and offered practical support.

Much remains unclear at the moment. The maximum threat level is now in effect across Belgium. The EU cancelled all working group meetings scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, March 22. Mr Koenders, speaking from Indonesia, urged Dutch nationals not to travel to Brussels.

“Right now, we don’t yet know if there are the Dutch nationals among the victims,” he said. “The embassy is working with the local authorities to determine whether this is the case.” For more information, please click  here
