Dutch Prime Minister officially opens new Fokker manufacturing facility in Atlanta USA

7 October 2015, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, has officially opened Fokker’s new 3,000 m2 manufacturing facility for composite structural components in Atlanta. In Fokker’s newest facility carbon fiber fuselages will be manufactured for aerospace applications. Fokker engineers in the Netherlands helped to adapt robots to wind the carbon fiber fuselage, rather than rely on the conventional, hand-built approach. The initial and serial production of the composite components will create 100 jobs over the next five years.

Fokker already owns a facility for aircraft service support activities in Atlanta. This location has proven to be a favourable environment for international aerospace companies. The excellent cooperation with the local authorities positively influenced the choice for Atlanta. Fokker’s USA customers have been very supportive from the start of this strategıc establishment. The new facility enables further growth to more than 100 employees in the next several years and optimizes operations to support current and future customers, enabling Fokker to further enhance its activities in Manufacturing, Engineering and Supply Chain Management of light weight structural components in the USA.

Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands said: “Fokker is one of the most famous Dutch business names, as one of the world’s first aircraft manufacturers. This new production facility demonstrates how Fokker has continually reinvented itself in an extremely challenging market. It’s also another promising example of Dutch and American cooperation, which leads to employment in both the Netherlands and the US.”

Hans Büthker, CEO of Fokker Technologies, said: “This represents the next and exciting phase in the further development of Fokker’s global presence, on which we can continue to build in the years to come. We are very proud to be selected for this innovative program and to extend our long term partnership with Raytheon. Design and development activities have initially taken place in the Netherlands, manufacturing takes place close to our customer by an excellent team in a state-of-the-art custom designed facility.
