July 8 2013 Message from our President : The unique reception and exhibition event the Chamber was able to organize on 25th June at the High Museum of Art, surrounding the Mauritshuis works of art, was a resounding success. Some 170 guests enjoyed the very special occasion in a great setting made even more unique with the presence of our very own Ambassador Rudolf Bekink from Washington DC, and the High Museum of Art Director Michael Shapiro who both welcomed all guests to the private showing.   This event was made possible through the generous contributions from the Netherlands Consulate in Miami, your own Chamber and of course many of our own members who invited numerous guests to join them at the event. I would like to once more extend my thanks to all who contributed financially to this evening.   The reactions I received after this special evening were universally super positive with many of our guests remarking that they would love to come and see the exhibition once more later in the summer. That shows you all that our decision as a Chamber to hold the event was a great choice. Furthermore the evening afforded one more occasion for a lot of networking to take place as well. All part of our charter as a Chamber. With best regards and wishing you all a great summer season,

Jan Willem A. Smeulers  President

Mar 22 2013 Driver's License Bill passes legislative process The Metro Atlanta Chamber achieved a legislative success today when the Georgia State Senate passed the Driver’s License Bill, which will allow metro Atlanta’s expat community to receive a temporary driver’s license, therefore bridging the gap between the time their work visa expires and the time they obtain a new visa.  This will have a significant positive impact not only on the quality of life of our expat community, but also on the number of Foreign Direct Investments arriving in metro Atlanta.  Most importantly, passing of this bill allows the Metro Atlanta Chamber to address and respond to the needs of their clients - the foreign companies which call Georgia home.

Feb 21 2013 Breakfast meeting On February 14th, the first Breakfast Meeting of 2013 took place with Perkins + Will's Senior Urban Designers Mr. David Green and Mr. Ryan Gravel. Urban planning is more than creating transportation networks and buildings. It's about creating a way of life. David and Ryan gave an engaging and interactive presentation about the history of urban design in the US compared to urban design in Europe and gave us better insight in the BeltLine Project. They showed us how transformative urban projects can not only improve the lives of residents, but also begin a political dialog to achieve these more comprehensive policy changes. Their energy and experience created a better understanding of urban design and enthusiasm among our attendees. We thank David Green and Ryan Gravel for sharing their knowledge with us! Presentation

Jan 16, 2013 New book on highly successful Dutch American entrepreneurs: Faith, Family & Fortune

There is a remarkable number of successful enterprises founded by Dutch Americans. Several of these companies turned into mega businesses, e.g. Amway, Meijer, Herman Miller Corporation, with annual sales of billions of dollars and thousands of employees. Dutch-American entrepreneurs have done well. However, it is not only their business competency that counts. Most of these Dutch-American entrepreneurs are committed Protestants, active members of Reformed churches, and firm believers in Calvinist doctrines. They see themselves as a part of the Reformed tradition that emphasizes the importance of a strong work ethic, the duty to use one’s God given talents, the obligation to share one’s wealth with others, and the commitment to community service and worthy causes. Somehow, Calvinism and entrepreneurship go well together and in combination prospered in the American cultural context. To clarify this relationship is one of the main goals of this new book by Peter Ester. The book can be ordered via Geneva Bookstore, Hope College Holland Michigan. Price: 10$. Send email to:
