What is your business industry category or specialty?
The Wesley Company is a Corporate Real Estate Services provider. This is also often referred to as Tenant Representation.

How do you describe your job to people outside the industry?
We help businesses with their office and industrial real estate needs. This includes the leasing or purchasing or disposition of the properties that they need for their business.

Who are your main competitors and what differentiates you from the competition? What makes you unique?
There are many organizations the provide real estate services of one sort or another which overlap with some of our services but the largest of these also represent commercial building owners which we view as being a conflict of interests. Others seek to represent clients on a national basis which typically means that they are more as source of information on local market conditions and available properties than actively involved in the decision making fundamentals for the clients that they serve.

Uniquely, our agents do both office and industrial real estate. We do not represent landlords unless they are businesses that need to dispose of excess real estate. For this reason, typically we do not have any conflicts in our relationships. We are always representing the business entity or its owners and their best interests. Because most of our clients are U.S. headquarters operations, we understand their need for services which extend beyond their facilities, such as architectural, design, legal, equipment, furniture and IT, and have established preferred vendor relationships with economical and reliable sources for these services, reducing the difficulty of transition for our clients.

How was the business started?
The company was founded in 1981 by Tom Wesley, its current President and CEO; however, Tom’s grandfather and father were both well known leaders in the Atlanta commercial real estate industry. T.J. Wesley, Sr. started in the business in 1885 and started his own business in 1898; so, in effect, the Wesley Company has been doing business in Atlanta for over 100 years.

How many employees does the business have?
The company currently has 4 full time agents and an office administrator.

How did you end up in Atlanta?
We are not really sure. Sherman burned all of the wooden buildings between Atlanta and Savannah, so all courthouse records were destroyed in the process. However, the Wesley family was a pioneer family to Decatur, Georgia. Which means that we have been in the area since before Atlanta (initially known as “Terminus”) was born.

What is your number one business goal over the next year?
To continue to expand our client base through the enhancement of existing client relationships and providing a level of service that results in our becoming the preferred source of real estate services within the communities that we serve.

What is the best advice you have received regarding doing business with Americans/Dutch?
One must be ever diligent in promoting and protecting the best interests of his clients. You can’t fake it. Everyone in the world understands and appreciates good service.
